Mount Mansfield
This classic 1970s raised-ranch-style home, located along the Stowe Mountain Resort access road, began as a true fixer-upper. A full gut and interior rehab brought the 3,500 sq. ft. home into the present day with major improvements to air circulation, lighting, finishes, windows, structural systems, and energy efficiency. Outside, the second-level deck was expanded, now reaching out into the landscape and providing enhanced access to the outdoors from the main living spaces. The result is a highly functional, comfortable vacation sanctuary with a brand new “personality.”
Specifically, the interior renovations occurred on two levels. At the lower level, the addition of a new entrance—adjacent to the garage and outdoor parking—resulted in vastly improved access. A new mudroom and ski storage area now provide guests with a convenient place to head out for and return from outdoor adventures.
On the upper level, four small rooms were replaced to create one, large, bright living/dining/kitchen space covered in durable, stained-ash flooring. The kitchen was refreshed with attractive, cost-effective solutions including IKEA cabinets and acrylic countertops. Certain character-defining features of the existing home—such as the vaulted ceiling and masonry fireplace—were retained but transformed to become intriguing focal points of the design.
