Center Fayston House
Nestled atop a hill with expansive views of the Green Mountains, including Killington, to the south, Center Fayston house was designed to be a warm and comfortable ski house for a family of three and their visiting friends. The mountain views are expertly captured through very large windows in the open and airy dining/living/kitchen space. The use of white oak flooring, cabinetry, and ceilings together with a commanding floor-to-ceiling steel-patinaed fireplace project the coziness the homeowners desired.
Center Fayston House is a three-bedroom, three-bath 2,739 sq.ft. home with an additional 1,409 sq. ft. of unheated space devoted to ski and bike storage and tuning, a hot tub area, and covered decks. The property included an existing garage; the clients wished for the house to be built as an extension of that structure.
The form of the house is reminiscent of a traditional Vermont barn, melding well with the landscape. Eastern cedar siding on the exterior is complemented by an inviting, Douglas-fir front door, which slides open barn-style and can be left closed or open for views in to and out from the house. Modern ribbon-style windows to the left of the front door create visual intrigue. A massive, southern-facing porch extends out from the dining room, with access from a second sliding door. Slatted wood screens provide shade to a portion of the porch.
