Cote Hill
Set along a prominent spine of bedrock in Morristown, Vermont, Cote Hill house overlooks Sterling Mountain and Madonna Peak to the west. The 2,900 sq. ft. three-bedroom home’s modern design is inspired by New England vernacular cape and shed forms. Here, the two iconic forms are merged to create a hybrid form that takes full advantage of the expansive mountain views. On the east side of the residence, a protective galleria connects the entrance to outdoor spaces and the two-car garage. Weather-resistant eastern white cedar and spruce clapboard siding clad the exterior, complemented by concrete-paver patios and high-performance Zola windows and doors. Inside, with polished concrete floors, black granite countertops, a Wittus woodstove, and low-cost IKEA cabinets with custom-made faces, the house strives to be warm and simple.
The Cote Hill house meets Efficiency Vermont Certified: High Performance standards. The design includes balanced ventilation with heat recovery and air-source heat pumps for heating and cooling, ensuring comfortable temperatures throughout the home in all seasons.
